Well, I couldn't find it when I went back to look the other day, but
coincidentally someone on the Groundspeak fora just published the link
to Dave Ulmer's post of the first ever geocache (though the name hadn't
been coined yet). Here it is in tinyurl; the original link is something
like 176 characters long:  http://tinyurl.com/domj.
