Earlier today I had the pleasure of doing Highpointer's Arizona
Historical Society Museum at Papago Park virtual
(http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=26346). This is a
most enjoyable museum, and is definitely worth a visit by all.
But if you're an Amateur Radio operator (and I know we have a few on
this list), you will have another reason to visit towards the end of the
year. The museum is preparing an exhibit they are titling Bash Hal Ne Ae
("Music from Iron"), in which they will be recreating Amateur Radio
station K7UGA, which was licensed to the late Senator Barry Goldwater.
During the Vietnam War, K7UGA operated virtually 24/7 from Goldwater's
home on a hill in Paradise Valley, with volunteers running hundreds of
thousands of radio phone patches between our armed forces and their
loved ones back in the US. This should be quite an exhibit if you're a
ham or if you're just interested in radios. After all, that's what your
GPSr is: a radio.
The museum representative I spoke to told me they were shooting for a
November opening of the exhibit but they weren't certain they would make
it on time. As they used to say on the radio, stay tuned.
