Here are my opinions on some of the questions and comments raised in various
postings. I've been thinking that if there is not enough interest from our
southern (Tucson?) or northern (Prescott or Flagstaff?) geocachers, perhaps
I should do a smaller version focused on central Arizona.
Any more comments?
Thanks, Jerry - Cache-Quest
(1) Should all caches be accessible for low clearance vehicles?
(my comment) I would say not necessarily. I'd like the caches to cover a
wide range of 'styles'. Some might be urban, some might have multiple
steps, some might have riddles. I would say that they won't be of the
Bronco Butte variety and I don't want to favor those darn yellow Jeeps out
there. I would also like to make the rules so that missing one particular
cache didn't necessarily eliminate a team, but it would certainly not be
beneficial.
(2) After the north and south tribes merge, would it then be the last
person to the cache is eliminated or would there be voting?
(my comment) I don't like the voting idea at all. I don't want this to get
personal. I'd like a simple set of rules that don't favor anyone. Points
would simply be assigned based on the order that teams arrive at a cache.
When teams are eliminated, it would be based only on the points. However, I
would like to include the concept of 'immunity'. I've been thinking that
the team who arrives first at a cache could not be eliminated in that round.
(3) Before the merge, would every member of the tribe be required to
visit the cache or just one team member? Would the team have to get
together and visit the cache together?
(my comment) Good question. I would compare our geocaching teams to the
individuals in the real Survivor game. I think most of our geocaching teams
are couples, families, or maybe close friends. I would suggest that for a
team to log a cache, at least one member of the team must be present to sign
in.
(a comment from Brian C.)... I would probably not list the
cache on geocaching.com unless it was a cache that everyone could
participate in. I would either just announce the coordinates on the list
and let it do from there, or I might be able to throw together some code
on the snaptek site for tracking events such as those.
(my response) This is a good point. I sent a note to the good folks at
geocaching.com and asked for their opinion on the whole idea. I'd like each
cache in the game to be a cache in geocaching.com so people can get credit
for the find via all the 'normal' counting sites. That seems to be
important to many people. However, for the game to work only the remaining
teams should be able to log the cache. I'd really like the caches to be
short-lived, but that's a personal thing.
